This year’s Berlin November, the Eastern Cape’s biggest traditional horse racing event, held at the Berlin Racecourse in Ntabozuko, comes with a new collaboration with internationally acclaimed South African fashion and lifestyle brand MaXhosa Africa, founded by designer Laduma Ngxokolo.

Ngxokolo said he was proud to see MaXhosa play a leading role in elevating Eastern Cape events to world-class standards.

“We are very excited, and we are planning to go all out on the day of the Berlin November,” he said.

“We want to match the standard of activations that happen in Johannesburg and make sure our customers and aspiring customers receive the best experience.”

The collaboration comes as MaXhosa expands its footprint with the launch of its first lifestyle-focused store in East London, showcasing not its fashion collections but its broader design universe.

“There will be a marquee where we have our rugs, cushions, and couches,” Ngxokolo said.

“We are emphasising that our East London store is our very first lifestyle store.”

Berlin November organiser Luthando Bara said preparations were nearly complete, with a strong sense of anticipation around the new partnerships.

Bara said the inclusion of MaXhosa Africa reflected more than just brand prestige — it was a shared vision for excellence rooted in cultural authenticity.

“MaXhosa represents excellence, innovation, and cultural pride — values that align closely with Berlin November,” he said.

“They bring a fashion-forward African aesthetic that celebrates our heritage in a modern way.”

Among this year’s new features is a free-access Open Stage giving emerging artists a chance to perform alongside established acts — part of the organisers’ drive to nurture homegrown talent.

Confirmed performers include Blaq Diamond, Nathi Mankayi, Mjolisi, DJ Kabila, Ziyanda Tshangana, Betusile Mcinga, Zintle Kwaaiman, Pastor the DJ, Babe-Zee, and DJ Zeed, with more names to follow.

Returning for the second year, gospel artist Ziyanda Tshangana said she was eager to perform before her home crowd.

“I am looking forward to my performance, yet I am very much anxious about it. I am nervous and happy — it’s one of the biggest stages I’ve ever performed on in the Eastern Cape,” she said.

“People can expect a new sound, new songs, and I’m hoping for the fullness of God in my performance.”

Celebrities including Unathi Nkayi, Moshe Ndiki, Dumisani Mbebe, Lusanda Mbane, and Kgomotso Christopher are also expected to attend.

This year’s theme, “Riot of Colours,” celebrates diversity, creativity, and the expressive spirit of the province.

Bara said it reflects pride in heritage and a rural renaissance where culture meets innovation.

“Berlin November represents pride in heritage and a platform for creatives, entrepreneurs, and the community to shine. We are deeply grateful for the support we continue to receive and look forward to welcoming thousands of attendees once again this year,” he said.

East London designer Sibonile Xolo, of Sibo Next Level Fashion, said the broad theme offered both freedom and challenge for designers.

“As the theme is broader than last year’s, I am looking forward to adhering to it with caution,” he said.

“The positive side is that it gives us more depth to express creativity — but we must still maintain discipline and focus.”
