A newly wedded woman is demanding her R8,000 deposit back from former Umhlobo Wenene FM radio presenter Mthobeli “K-CI” August after he pulled out of hosting her wedding on the 11th hour.

August was booked to MC at Nteboheng Leboea’s wedding in East London, Eastern Cape, in November last year. The radio man charged R12,000 – excluding flights, accommodation and transport.

According to August’s quotation that SowetanLIVE has seen, Leboea had to fly him from Johannesburg to East London, pick him up and also pay for his accommodation. Leboea showed SowetanLIVE her Capitec Bank statement with two deposits of R4,000 each being paid to August's Nedbank account on April 21 and October 2 last year.

Leboea, originally from King Willam's Town and currently living in the US, said: “After communicating with him for months, a day before the wedding K-CI demanded that I hire a car for him, failing which he was pulling out immediately. He conceded it was not in our initial agreement and he knew that I'd get someone to pick him up from the airport. I managed to cancel the flight tickets and accommodation but I lost money. I told him that I want my refund but he kept ignoring my WhatsApp messages until I involved lawyers.”

A letter of demand dated February 21 was sent to August’s email by Majali Gwabeni Attorneys. Leboea said August has also ignored the letter of demand.

“I think he took an advantage that I am far away from him. I have been trying to get K-Ci to pay my money back since November but he is not budging. I had to use lawyers to get his attention and still he is ignoring me.”

August denied owing Leboea.

“Nteboheng is the one who owes me because she never paid my fee in full. Closer to the time she was not forthcoming, I was at pains trying to get information out of her. It was not clear when the balance will be made and a person who will pick me up at the airport.

“I remember asking her to give me her maid of honour so that I can liaise with her. I knew that she will be stressing with the wedding and she won't have time to deal with me. But she never did. Nteboheng kept saying one of the uncles will pick me up but it was never clear.

“When it was not clear who will pick me up, it was difficult for me to get on that plane. I know these things... people book you and when you want to be taken to the airport after wedding they are nowhere to be found. I wanted my own car to avoid drama or the name of the person who will pick me up.”

On the issue of avoiding her, August said it was not true and added that Leboea just wanted to tarnish his name.
