The Kei Mouth Beer Fest returns for another round of fresh brews, live music, stalls and fun for the family on the last weekend of the school holidays.
Setting up at the Kei Mouth Country Club at 12 midday on Saturday, get your festive shopping in early with local crafts and wares while snacking on freshly prepared treats.
Local crafters include Table 58, Emerald Vale and SA Breweries, plus the club’s bar, with East London band Third Degree taking the party into the night.
Limited “Kei Beer Fest” beer mug souvenirs will also be available for purchase.
A joint project between the Kei Mouth Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association — known as the Kei Crew — and the club, all surplus proceeds are put back into the club and village, such as for maintaining the verges along the main road and Grosvenor Square, fixing potholes and clearing drains.
Chair Kim Roberts said: “Kei Mouth has so much [to offer], especially for those who value the space and time to reconnect with themselves and their loved ones.
“Here one can exchange nightlife for stunning night skies, shopping malls for walks on the beach and traffic noise for the call of the birds and the roar of the sea.”
Activities also include the village’s usual 5km park run from the club on Saturday morning.
Festival marketing co-ordinator Margaret Albrecht encouraged visitors to support the nine-hole Savemor NSRI golf fundraiser on Friday.
“For rugby lovers, the Springbok Argentina match will be shown on all the screens in the club,” she said.
“Third Degree will be playing on either side of the match so no-one misses out on the party.
“The highly popular train ride and mini quad bikes will have the younger people well entertained throughout the afternoon, as will the pony rides from Wild Coast Horse Trails.”
The festival was started in 2019 by part-time resident Noleen Weyer as a chance to revitalise the seaside village as a holiday destination.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic shutting down the festival, it was brought back in 2022, with about 400 visitors that year and in 2023.
“The Kei Beer Fest brings a smile to my face and a warmth in my heart, we are all special people who know how to have fun with friends and family — don’t miss out, see you all there,” Weyer said.
Festival organiser Bev Forward said a new marquee tent had been purchased with funds raised in 2023, which in total amounted to about R30,000 — split evenly for village maintenance and club refurbishments.
“The tent is going up today. Last year, the weather wasn’t nice at all, but this year has beautiful weather in store.
“We have a lot for children like a little train down the 18th fairway and back up, we’ve got the little quad bikes, it’s a family day.
“Kei Mouth is busy at the moment because of the school holidays and with the good weather we are going to have a great time.
“There is line dancing in the afternoon.
“I love to see families out and look forward to it being a family outing and children being able to participate and interact, getting the crowd to enjoy the festivities.
“For people to dress up would be great — with a bit of German flair.”
