The popular East London Metro FM Heatwave event, under the new leadership of Luthando Bara, is making its highly anticipated return to town, with an exciting line-up of top artists.
The performers include Boom Shaka, Lwah Ndlunkulu, Naked DJ, DJ Tira, Tyler ICU, Umhlobo Wenene presenter Pastor the DJ, Deep London, Zintle Kwaaiman, and many more.
The event will be held at Buffalo Park on December 16 and is expected to attract thousands of music lovers.
Deep London, real name Lita Kupelo, a household name in Amapiano, said he was excited to be performing at home.
The Metro FM award winner said fans could expect to hear both his new singles and the tracks that made him the sensation he is.
“Performing at home is always exciting,” he said.
“I want to bring a different flavour, celebrate my success and give people flowers for their support and love.
“I’m doing well because of them, and this is also to show youngsters that they can be anything they want to be.”
Kupelo said the love he was receiving from his hometown was fuel to his craft.
“The reception, love and appreciation from my people is heart-warming,” he said.
“Here, I don’t feel like an outsider. I have nothing to complain about — people really love me.”
Kwaaiman said the stage was a perfect platform on which to reflect on the year.
She said the ultimate goal was to celebrate love and life.
“I get nervous every time I take to the stage, but bringing back the Heatwave means a time for artists to share their traumas and pains, and to get together to embrace our culture.
“We are going to be one person because the ultimate goal is to be happy and celebrate each other.
“Seeing the event come back is thrilling. The event culture in East London has been slowly dying but seeing these events back, we are hopeful.
“I’m happy to be called again; back then I was young and now I’m old.
“I can’t wait to share this side of me as Zintle Kwaaiman.”
Bara said his decision to take on the event was influenced by several factors.
“First, Metro FM has a robust reputation for hosting some of the most engaging and high-energy events in the entertainment industry,” he said.
“Their commitment to creating memorable experiences aligns well with my own values and aspirations in event management.
“This synergy made the opportunity particularly appealing.
“Then East London, with its vibrant culture and lively community, presents a unique setting that offers ample opportunities to explore creative event concepts.
“The enthusiastic reception to past events provides a promising audience that fuels the promise for a successful occasion.
“Additionally, working in East London offers the chance to collaborate with local talent and businesses, further enriching the event with a mix of national and local flavour.”
Bara said the Heatwave had the potential to boost East London’s economy, while creating job opportunities for many.
“Hosting the Metro FM Heatwave presents a plethora of opportunities for East London’s growth and development,” he said.
“First, as a high-profile event, it can significantly boost local tourism, drawing visitors not only for the event itself but also to explore local attractions.
“This influx of tourists could lead to increased revenue for local businesses, including hotels, restaurants and retail shops, stimulating the regional economy.
“Moreover, the event provides a platform for local artists and vendors to showcase their talents and products to a larger audience.
“This exposure can be invaluable, potentially leading to future business opportunities and collaborations.
“The cultural exchange that such events foster also contributes to the community’s dynamism and vibrancy.”
The entrepreneur and founder of the popular horse race, Berlin November, said under his leadership, people at the Heatwave could expect several exciting changes and improvements.
“One of the primary enhancements will be an upgraded line-up featuring a mix of top-tier local and national artists.
“This diverse selection will cater to various musical tastes, ensuring that all attendees have an unforgettable experience,” he said.
The platform also provided a space for networking and socialising, with various activities and interactive booths set up to entertain the crowd.
“Alongside the musical performances, the Heatwave is known for its high production values, including state-of-the-art sound systems and impressive stage set-ups,” Bara said.
“This creates an immersive atmosphere that enhances the overall experience for the audience.
“Fans can also look forward to engaging with a lively crowd as the event draws a diverse group of attendees who share a passion for music and celebration.”
