Eastern Cape-born singer and songwriter Nomabotwe Mtimkulu is set to captivate audiences at the Guild Theatre this Saturday with performances of tracks from her soul-stirring album Hamba Ungemi.

Known for her powerful voice and infectious rhythms, the 37-year-old is more than just a performer — she is a storyteller, a leader and a beacon of inspiration in SA’s music scene.

Her tour, which began in Cape Town, is now making its highly anticipated stop in East London.

“The response has been incredibly positive and encouraging,” Mtimkulu said.

“Audiences have been warm and enthusiastic, and there’s a great deal of excitement building about Saturday’s show.”

From East London, the tour will continue to Johannesburg.

Describing her sound as deeply soulful, Mtimkulu promises to deliver a heartfelt performance on Saturday night.

“Some of the standout tracks from the album include Hamba Ungemi, Nyanga and Tarhu Haleluya.

“The audience can expect a performance where I’ll be pouring my heart out on stage, sharing all my original music in its most heartfelt form.”

Mtimkulu is no stranger to East London. She’s performed at several events in the city, including corporate functions and a show at the Miriam Makeba Centre during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.

“I chose East London as part of my album tour because it truly feels like the home of music,” she said.

“The city has a deep appreciation for the arts, and it felt right to include it in this journey.”

With a musical career spanning more than 18 years, Mtimkulu stands tall as a symbol of perseverance and talent.

Her beginnings as a backing vocalist for the late Stompie Mavi paved the way for a journey defined by innovation and unwavering commitment to her craft.

She played a key role in establishing acts such as 3 Quarte and Maisha, demonstrating not only her artistry but also her vision and leadership in the industry.

Since launching her solo career in 2016, Mtimkulu has garnered critical acclaim.

Backed by the Eastern Cape Audio Visual Centre, she recorded her own music and established herself as a rising force on the national music stage.

Her performances are noted for their dynamism and her unique ability to forge deep connections with audiences, whether in intimate settings or on large stages.

Mtimkulu has performed for presidential audiences in parliament, won the prestigious Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival and acted in five theatrical productions, two of which were directed by the late legendary actress Nomhle Nkonyeni.

Her solo performances at events such as Jazz on the Bay and the Mandela Bay Theatre Complex’s International Women’s Day Celebration have further cemented her reputation as a compelling and unforgettable performer.

“In my versatility, I’ve shared stages with legends like Ringo Madlingozi and Ntando at the Ebubeleni Music Festival, and I’ve had the honour of performing for international audiences at the Brics international gala dinner,” she said.

Her music, available on all major digital platforms, reflects a unique and evolving artistry that continues to resonate deeply with fans across SA and beyond.

As she prepares to take the Guild Theatre stage, Mtimkulu promises a night of soul, passion and musical storytelling that East Londoners won’t soon forget.
