Eastern Cape police are offering financial rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects linked to the killing of a popular football club boss and the sister of a well-known radio deejay.

Tornado FC boss Siphiwo Nyobo, 55, was gunned down while leaving North End stadium in East London, while Ntombizanele Matyholweni was found in her NU 13 home in Mdantsane with multiple wounds.

Both killings occurred in March, Nyobo in 2019 and Matyholweni in 2018.

A R50,000 award has been offered to any person who can provide police with information which leads to the arrest and successful prosecution and conviction in each case.

Police spokesperson captain Khaya Tonjeni said several attempts to gather information on the suspects and the vehicle used in Nyobo’s killing on March 2 had been unsuccessful.

“It is alleged that three unknown male suspects approached and shot Nyobo at close range while leaving the stadium. The suspects then fled from the scene in a VW Polo with an unknown registration number,” Tonjeni said.

Anyone with any information can contact investigating officer Lt Col Bonisile Mkupa on 071-671 7770 or 083-256 5760 or office number 043-707 0653.

Matyholweni’s body was found in her home on March 19 2018. She was the sister of Umhlobo Wenene FM radio DJ Luckeez Mfowethu.

“Police are appealing to anyone with any information that can lead to the arrest, successful prosecution and conviction of the suspect/s behind this heinous crime to contact the investigating officer, sergeant Unathi Makala at 073-444 0904 or 043-708 4600/4612.”

Tonjeni said information could also be shared on 086-001 0111, the SAPS crime stop number, and 32111, the crime line, or their nearest police station.

“Callers will remain anonymous should they wish to and all information will be strictly confidential,” he said.
