R8m water bill stand-off costs pupils weeks of schooling

Almost  150 Eastern Cape schools have been without water all week because the provincial education department owes the Amathole district authority R8m.   The  147 schools include Nelson Mandela’s alma mater, Healdtown Comprehensive, and Thubalethu High, both in Fort Beaufort, as well  as Phandulwazi Agricultural High in Alice, which sent their pupils home last week due to the dry taps.
