A well-known Eastern Cape club DJ was granted bail of R1,000 for allegedly attempting to rape a woman last weekend.

The 35-year-old appeared in the East London magistrate’s court on Monday.

NPA spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani said: “It is alleged that the complainant was asleep in her friend’s house when she awoke and realised the accused was on top of her, already naked.

“It is further alleged that she did not know how he had got into the house at the time. The accused allegedly knows the owner of the house.

“When she awoke, the accused was allegedly trying to lower her panties and that was when she screamed.

“The accused is thus charged with attempted rape and bail is fixed in the amount of R1,000.”

The Dispatch understands the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, May 2.

A source who wanted remain anonymous said the suspect had been in hiding after the incident and had gone to the Vulindlela police station to report that he had been receiving threats, and that was when he was arrested.

Ngcakani said: “The case has been postponed to June 23 for further investigation.”
