Meanwhile, Eastern Cape government departments tabled their 2020-21 annual reports at the Bhisho legislature last week, which revealed that more than 200 state employees had been subjected to disciplinary processes.

Some had been dismissed for their alleged transgressions, while others escaped with minor sanctions such as being fined or suspended without pay.

The reports revealed that the provincial education department recorded the most disciplinary hearings for the period between April 2020 and the end of March 2021.
