The court case of Alutha Pasile, 25, accused of dismembering his University of Fort Hare girlfriend’s body and hiding her in a suitcase, will resume on Friday after he requested a state lawyer on Thursday.
Nosicelo Mtebeni, was a final year law student who lived with Pasile in Quigney.
During his earlier court appearances soon after his arrest in August, he abandoned bail and rejected legal assistance.
Pasile was asked by presiding judge Michelle Beneke at the East London high court if he wanted legal representation, and he agreed to receiving assistance from the state.
A trial date is expected to be set down on Friday.
The soft-spoken Pasile looking downwards, wore an olive buff which covered half his face.
Matatiele born Mtebeni’s gruesome murder shocked the country with the student community and activists calling for the law to ensure justice for the slain student.
