With no arrests made since a violent shooting left his father dead in May, the grandson of self-confessed East London Mandrax druglord Livingstone Napoleon has offered a R100,000 reward so the family can take “this matter into our own hands”.

Domonique Davis, whose father, Gibraltar Davis, was gunned down execution-style on May 1 in a case police believe may be drug or gang-related, said the family had  lost faith in the police.

Domonique recently posted on his Facebook wall that the police were not co-operating with the family and because of this they had decided to offer a reward for solid information pertaining to the shooting.

The post reads: “Attention all: As a lot of you know, on May 1 my father, Gibraltar, was brutally murdered in front of Asiah 58 in Parkridge. Two vehicles were spotted at the scene and also in the footage of the shooting.

“One was a white Golf 6 GTI and the second was a white Nissan bakkie. The shooting occurred at 5.54pm on [the] Saturday.

“I have come to an agreement to pay a R100,000 cash reward to anyone who has solid information about the people involved in his murder. We are looking for real information as we are working with very high-profile people to build our own case to get these perpetrators behind bars, so that justice can be served.

“You can DM [direct message] me if you have solid information. We will not mention people’s names to the public and you will remain completely anonymous. Please share this post as it is not a hoax.

“We are very serious to get to the bottom of the matter... police are not co-operating with us in the matter, so we are taking this matter into our own hands.”

The Facebook post has been shared almost 140 times since it was created on Thursday last week.

A family spokesperson who identified herself only as Tania confirmed the post was genuine.

“It is legit. There is a R100,000 reward as stated in the post. Unfortunately I can’t comment further without consulting the family first.

“I’ll take your number and give it to Domonique, and he will call you for further comment. Probably he would want to discuss this with his mother first,” she said.

The Dispatch was unable to reach Domonique directly, but his grandmother, Bridget Napoleon, also confirmed the reward was legitimate, though she would not elaborate further.

Gibraltar Davis, the son of Livingstone Napoleon, was shot dead while driving in Parkside. He was 41.

He was hit multiple times from behind before his attackers fled. Nothing was taken and just over R18,000 was found in the car, along with a firearm and nine rounds of ammunition in the magazine.

Sixteen empty machine gun cartridges were found on the scene.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said the Davis case was still under investigation. No arrests had been made yet but detectives were in constant contact with the family, he said.

“At this stage the police are not aware of the reward posted by the family. The turnaround time in solving drug-related murder cases is dependent on the information provided by witnesses, and, in situations where there are no witnesses, our investigations get delayed,” he said.

Asked about the number of rewards the police had posted in the province, and the amounts involved, Kinana said such information would require feedback from various detective units and could take time to compile.
