Less than a month after Buffalo City municipality turned the taps back on, residents of Kayser’s Beach have found themselves without water once again.
Kayser’s Beach Ratepayer’s Association (KBRA) chair Robby Palladino said the community had been dealing with water troubles for a long time.
“It goes back to last year, where we sat without water for two weeks. That was pure negligence,” she said.
“Last year’s problem was the pump used to pump the water was the wrong size so it failed. My first question was why was the wrong size used, and where was the spare pump.
“They took that pump to PE to be refurbished, which means that at some point it will fail again.”
Palladino said that infrastructure maintenance was a serious ongoing problem that affected Kayser’s Beach as well as the surrounding areas such as Lilyvale.
“It’s the same old, same old,” she said.
The Daily Dispatch reported in February that BCM had resorted to using privately owned rainwater tankers to supply residents with water after they were unable to draw from the reservoir for more than a week.
Councillor Sue Bentley said she had tried to follow up with Amatola Water about the matter.
“The feedback is no water is coming in from Needs Camp Reservoir because Amatola Water is not pumping the water. There’s no water going into the reservoir.
“I don’t know why they’re not pumping at this stage,” she said.
According to Amatola Water communication and stakeholder manager Nosisa Sogayise the Laing Water Treatment Works is fully operational and at full capacity. Sogayise referred the Daily Dispatch to Buffalo City Municipality saying they had not heard from the metro that there was a problem.
