There were chaotic scenes on Wednesday morning at an East London primary school which was forced to close its doors after angry parents stormed the premises.

The parents threatened to shut down more schools.

In photos circulating, more than 70 parents can be seen walking up and down outside Zanokukhanya Primary School in Mdantsane while some pupils sit on the ground, many opening their books.

A parent who spoke to the DispatchLIVE indicated their anger stemmed from the alleged slow response by the education department to provide temporary structures at the school.

“It’s painful, our children are not coping. If the department doesn’t answer our demands, all schools in NU6 ... we will shut them down,” said the parent.

This is a developing story.
