The Eastern Cape TikTok star who received the DStv Content Creator award on Saturday night dedicated his prize to his late mother and family.
Mandisi Tshingana, 27, is known for his witty TikTok videos.
Tshingana stands out with his signature look — in a domestic worker’s uniform.
He has more than a million followers on the global app and has scored over 20-million likes.
He won the Sol Content Creator award and walked away with a Samsung Galaxy Z5 Flip cellphone and monetary prizes.
The black-tie ceremony took place at The Galleria in Sandton.
Tshingana said the award represented a bouquet to his late mother, Fezeka, who he wished was alive to witness his success.
Tshingana, an engineer by day in KwaZulu-Natal, creates and edits videos in his down time.
Originally from Adelaide, he has a home in Qonce and says both places have had an impact on who he is.
In his acceptance speech, Tshingana said if he were to look back and be told that one day his videos would brighten the days of followers he would not have believed it.
When he started recording videos, he did so out of curiosity and because he loved the arts.
“If I'd been told three years ago that I’d win, I would never have believed you — because I am from the Eastern Cape where opportunities are crushed.”
Receiving the award prompted a mix of emotions. “I can’t put it in words; I felt sadness and happiness.”

He wished his parents had been alive to see the work, but he was also happy his hard work was recognised.
Tshingana said he was grateful to everyone who supported his craft — and to all who had voted.
“I am truly grateful, especially to the Eastern Cape people because they really back their people.
“This is very much dedicated to my mom and family.
“My family never quite got content creation and my changing into women’s clothes. It took them time to understand.”
He said the award was evidence he could be funny behind the camera.
This fact and his day job as an engineer created the person he was.
