The bodies of a man and woman found dumped beside the road near Libode last week have been identified by their families as an unmarried couple who worked as e-hailing drivers.

They were Sinenjongo Mzikinya, 26, from Ngqeleni, and Mathembeni Headman Zithulele, 32, of Zithulele village in Mqanduli.

The victims, who had been stabbed multiple times, were found beside the gravel road at Dalagubha village in the Mafini administrative area near Libode at about 8am on Tuesday November 7.

Mzikinya will be buried on Friday and Zithulele on Saturday.

Their grieving families have called for people to assist police in tracking down their killers.

Mzikinya’s older sister, Luntukazi, said social media had helped them find the bodies.

They said they had been shocked by how the young couple were killed.

“This has left both families devastated and angered,” Luntukazi said.

“When our mother called them on Monday, their cellphones were on voicemail.”

That day, Luntukazi decided to travel from Ngqeleni to Mthatha to look for the couple.

“I even asked people to check at their flat, but they could not be found,” she said.

The frantic search came to a sad end when their bodies were identified at the state morgue in Mthatha on Tuesday.

“We saw on social media platforms that the unidentified bodies of a young man and woman had been found,” Luntukazi said.

“We then went to the forensic pathology unit in Mthatha.”

Mzikinya’s father, Mgqubeni, 68, was devastated by the news.

“Seeing my daughter and her boyfriend brutally killed showed how cruel people are and their complete disregard for human life,” he said.

Police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyholo confirmed that two cases of murder had been opened.
