The Eastern Cape’s Butho Vuthela, who bagged a top Crown Gospel Music Award on Sunday, hopes it inspires young aspiring artists from the province to believe anything is possible.

Multi-award-winning Vuthela added another feather to his cap after winning the Best Traditional Song Award for his latest single, Ethembeni Bambelela (which means, hold on to hope).

The artist, who released his single earlier in 2023, said it was aimed at encouraging people facing difficulties in life to not give up.

“It’s intended to encourage them that what is lost can always be restored.

“It’s about holding on and not losing yourself.”

Vuthela said he was grateful to everyone who had supported him in his journey as a gospel singer.

“As musicians, we need to find content that can positively affect our people.

“Music has the power to send a message.”

Vuthela said when he retired from the industry one day, he hoped to pass on the baton to new rising stars who would continue to change the narrative that seasoned artists did not come from the Eastern Cape.

“I want them to look up to me and see that despite where I come from, I have fought to reach the top.

“We want change, the provincial economy needs to be uplifted, we need artists that are going to headline events who are from here.”
