Mthatha residents Darrel Godwin, popularly known as Mageba, and his 84-year-old mother Margaret Godwin could not vote at the Mthatha Town Hall as their names did not appear on the voters' roll.
A fuming Margaret said, “This is not right. I think it is disgusting. We've voted in Qumbu previously before we moved here. We registered to vote here but now they cannot find our names on the list.”
Jongizizwe Mbobo said, “They scanned my ID and when they checked my name it did not appear anywhere. I am so disappointed.”
“I registered here on February 4. I woke up so early to come here ,only to be told they cannot find my name. These elections are very important, I am so angry now,” said fellow Mthatha resident Zodidi Dlekedla.
“I was here around 6am. I am not leaving until we get something concrete. There are just so many of us[who have been told] our names are not on the list.”
