A body was found washed up at Orient Beach during clean-up operations to clear debris from the recent storms on Thursday morning.
The body, yet to be identified, is believed to have washed up during the strong tides caused by the disruptive weather.
Buffalo City Municipality spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya said police had confirmed that there was a missing persons case reported of a person in April, but they are still waiting for a report to confirm if it was this victim.
Ngwenya said: “We can confirm that the number of deceased people in BCM has increased to three that are linked to the flood destruction.”
Scores of community members from across East London, together with local businesses and the municipality, rolled up their sleeves to clean up the shores that were covered with heavy waste pollution and hyacinth washed out from the metro's rivers.
