A family from Ngcobo are desperate to find Ongezwa Ngqiqo Rasmeni, 33, who was last seen six months ago in Komani.
Ongezwa’s elder brother, Qhamani Rasmeni, said the last time he spoke to her was late in November 2023, in a casual telephone conversation.
“I am based in Cape Town due to work, but at that time I was in Johannesburg, so I called her letting her know my whereabouts and checking up on her, as we usually do.
"I tried calling her again a few days later, but she did not answer. That was when I received a report that she had gone missing.”
Rasmeni said he asked relatives to check her flat, but they found nobody home.
“Her cellphone was there but she was not. It was unusual of her not to update us on her whereabouts,” he said.
Ongezwa lived with her 10-year-old daughter and nephew, who were both away at the time of her disappearance.
“Her daughter is distraught and heartbroken,” Rasmeni said. “We had to be honest with her ... she constantly asks when her mother will come back to fetch her. It breaks my heart.
“There have not been any leads from the police yet.”
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said according to their information, Ngqiqo Rasmeni had gone out with a friend and never returned.
“A preliminary investigation was done, with no success,” Mawisa said.
“Police are appealing to anyone who can shed light on her disappearance to contact the police. All information is strictly confidential and callers may remain anonymous.”
Rasmeni described his sister as a warm-hearted and loving person.
“The past Christmas Day and New Year’s Day were different; we felt a void of her absence. We lost a sibling this month and I posted something on Facebook hoping Ongezwa would see it and come back home.
“We were six siblings, and now we are five, including Ongezwa. We are constantly living in prayer, hoping to get a phone call that will relieve us from this misery.
“All we want is for our sister to be found,” he said.
“It would be God’s grace to find her alive, but we live in a cruel society.
"We are expecting anything, as long we find closure.”
