The family of an Eastern Cape traditional leader is demanding the arrest of AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo claiming he insulted and humiliated them during a community meeting held in Mthatha this week.
Sicelo Mareke, 40, said he opened a case at the Mthatha Central police station on Wednesday, claiming Dalindyebo had insulted his older brother, Nkosi Sakhumzi Dalindzolo Mareke, and his entire family.
He said his brother was the headman of Mandela Park, but the king had referred to him as an impostor, saying he was not recognised in the role.
“We opened the case on Wednesday at the Mthatha Central police station,” Mareke said.
“The king has called us killers and said my brother was an illegal child of my late father. This left us angry.
“This is an insult not to one individual, but to the whole family, especially my mother.
“He must be arrested and clear our family name.
“If he is dealing with my brother, he must deal with him alone, but not involve the whole family in their things and insult us, my mother and late father.”
On Tuesday, Dalindyebo held a community meeting at Laphumikhwezi Primary School in Mandela Park in Mthatha, intervening after the school was closed for nearly a week after threats of extortion and assault of a senior teacher.
Police were unable to respond to the Dispatch’s questions at the time of writing.
