A 20-year-old university student has been arrested after the body of a newborn baby was found in a dustbin at a student residence in East London on Friday.
She has been charged with concealment of birth.
On Sunday, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli confirmed the arrest.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident form part of the [ongoing] investigation,” Nkohli said.
The student is expected to appear in court soon.
The university, known to the Dispatch, had not responded to questions by the time of publication.
