New school toilets not totally safe for all pupils, says SA Human Rights Commission

While the fight is on to speedily eradicate pit latrines in the Eastern Cape, a report by the SA Human Rights Commission has revealed concerning lapses in the ventilated improved pit (VIP) toilets. The commission conducted a sample inspection at schools with pit latrines, VIP and flush toilets for a few months ending in January.
