Three family members have been left dead and two others injured during a mass shooting at an Eastern Cape village on Thursday night.

The incident has left the community of Mmangweni at KwaTshapile near Ngcobo reeling in shock.

No arrests have been made and the acting provincial commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Major-General Thandiswa Kupiso, has called on the community of Dalasile and the surrounding areas to assist police with information.

“The police have mobilised their full resources to trace and speedily locate at least two suspects, who are believed to be involved in this heinous and terrible incident,” Kupiso said.

Police provincial spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said no arrests have been made yet.

It is alleged that at about 7.30pm five family members mourning the death of a relative were shot by two armed men, who stormed their Mangweni location home in Dalasile, Ngcobo.

Three victims aged between 30 and 50 were fatally wounded, while the other two sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital. The motive for the attack is yet to be established.

Anyone who can assist with information is requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Sandiso Madinga, on 071 475 2105, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or at the nearest police station.
