Eastern Cape retired judge president Temba Clement Sangoni, senior AbaThembu traditional leader of Hlanga royal lineage, has died.

The Sangoni royal family and the AbaThembu's Hlanga royal house spokesperson, Nkosi Vulisango Pantshwa, confirmed that Sangoni passed away on Tuesday morning.

“It is with profound sorrow that the Sangoni family announces the passing of their cherished patriarch, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and husband, the Honourable Mr Justice Clement Temba Sangoni Aah! Dilizintaba. He departed this life peacefully on the June 10 in Johannesburg, following a short illness,” Pantshwa said.

A jurist of towering intellect, unwavering principle and senior traditional leader of the Qokolweni-Zimbane Traditional Council in Mthatha, Sangoni dedicated his life to the noble pursuit of justice and the service of his nation. His legacy is etched not only in the annals of our legal system but also deeply within the hearts of his family and all who knew him.

“The Sangoni royal family humbly requests prayers and kind thoughts as they navigate this time of immeasurable loss. They draw comfort from the knowledge that his life was one of profound purpose and enduring impact,” he said.

Details regarding services and ceremonies to honour his life will be communicated in due course.
