Two boys, aged 13 and 15, will appear in the Qonce magistrate’s court on Friday after they allegedly pointed a pellet gun at two grade 7 pupils at Schornville Primary School in Qonce.
The two boys, who face charges of pointing a firearm and intimidation, were arrested in Qonce on Thursday morning.
Qonce police spokesperson Captain Mluleki Mbi said it was alleged that about four pupils from an unnamed school entered Schornville Primary’s grounds on Wednesday June 4 and threatened the two grade 7 pupils with a firearm.
They allegedly opened the grade 7 boys’ schoolbags, but took nothing.
Mbi said the pupils allegedly returned on June 6, threatening the grade 7 pupils again.
“Police investigated further and effected this arrest and recovered a pellet gun,” Mbi said.
He said the two boys had been released into the care of their parents, and a social worker’s assessment report was being conducted.
Schornville’s school governing body chair, Chandre Plaatjies, said they were yet to establish the facts and would have a meeting with the school’s management on Friday.
“It is very unfortunate, but we will hear tomorrow when we meet the school and get the facts,” she said.
Schornville Primary’s principal refused to comment and referred questions to the department.
Provincial education spokesperson Vuyiseka Mboxela could not comment by the time of publication due to an emergency response to this week’s flood disaster relief efforts around Mthatha.
