Promising young East London DJ Lindokuhle Zinto is making a name for herself on the decks.

Affectionately known as DJ Lindoh, the artist has been bagging gigs across Buffalo City.

Her interest was sparked by DJ Cndo, a popular DJ who is making strides for herself in a male-dominated space.

“I started DJing in 2010 and I’ve been doing gigs in and around East London,” she said.

“I specialise in Gqom and old school commercial.”

“My musical influence comes from other female DJs at large.

“It ’s where I draw inspiration to push further.

“I can see there is a huge potential for women in this space, unlike back in the day when I started,” she said.

Zinto said the family was slowly opening to the idea of seeing her playing in clubs.

“My family has been supportive. My mom wasn’t open to the idea initially as she felt like it would disturb or hinder my  studies, but she ended up growing into it after I reassured her that it wouldn’t.

“Notable gigs I have performed at include the Buffalo City carnival festival in December 2015.

“Others include the freshers braai at BCC college in 2022 and the rest are establishments in and around EL including Jeff’s place, Ekoneni, Ryhtmn Bar, Chuncky Charlie, Elsie’s Kei Mouth, Tsiri’s lounge among many others.”

Like any other upcoming DJ, Zinto has had her own battles.

“I have had challenges withunfair treatment.

“Since the industry is male-dominated, men are given more of a platform than females, but there is light.

“It is slowly becoming accommodative, and things are starting to be bearable for us too.”

She said her craft was nourished through listening to music.

“I always listen to different kinds of music, whether old or new, and visualise what I’d want my set to be.”

The artist said one of her goals was to explore her talent outside the province.

“My long-term goals are to play outside the province, in huge events and growing my brand nationally and even internationally. ”

Zinto has played her music sets on radio stations such as Umhlobo Wenene FM, Trufm, Mdantsane FM and Kumkani FM .She said one of the interesting things about being DJ was the ability to take away people’s problems through music.

“It ’s always exciting to help people forget about their sorrows for a minute, or just seeing them enjoy music fully. I believe music touches and heals souls.”

Zinto said there were many things in the pipeline.

“I am working on a collaboration with other artists as a DJ.”

“Fans can stay updated by following me on my socials(Facebook: Lindokuhle zinto, Tiktok: DJ Lindor, Instagram: DJLindor/ linda_zinto , X(twittwer) kuhleTheDj,” she said.
