Barbaric attitude to Life
It was heartbreaking to read the story of a man who killed three youngsters as they were studying for matric while a fourth is now fighting for his life in hospital (“Families Shattered after Teens Gunned Down”, DD Nov 23).
This is really a disgrace for someone to place so little value in Life.
No matter what transpires, taking another person's life is unacceptable.
These barbaric acts seem to have a way of coming to the top of the table as we approach the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children.
This is most unfortunate as it is so often the male of the species that commits these barbaric acts.
I appeal to President Cyril Ramaphosa and his cabinet — do a referendum to check the views of South African citizens on sentences of life in jail.
This needs to be done before the 2024 elections so that citizens can show you how tired we are of these senseless killings, Mr Ramaphosa. — Vukile Maki, Mdantsane
Black hole for black bags
I am truly amazed at how BCM workers all around East London use hundreds of black refuse bags cleaning up the streets but the bags hardly have anything in them, you find them all along the streets.
Yet we, the ratepayers, are being deprived of these very bags, which we have paid for and are supposed to received them delivered free.

Focus, people
Instead of indulging in mudslinging about party policy positions on the Israel-Palestine conflict, the ANC should get down to addressing the challenges its own people are suffering as a result of its own poor service delivery.
The ANC government represents the whole of South Africa in the international arena.
It foreign policy position should look at what the UN and international laws are saying and adhere to those.
So any alliance between the ANC and the Patriotic Alliance in the Johannesburg metro is influenced by the material conditions that compel each of them as South African citizens and patriots to address the challenges that confront the city.
Tomorrow it might be another party because all constituencies are desperately looking for service delivery.
