Minentle Zhang, 12, from Laerskool Kuswag Primary in Sunnyridge, walked away as the Miss Pre-Teen queen in the Miss Golden Heart SA pageant.
The beauty pageant, founded by Siyamamkela Wanga in 2022, focuses on empowering young girls.
The budding model said she hoped to grace international stages, advocating for young people and women.
The pageant, hosted in East London recently, saw young models from across the country contesting for titles in various categories.
Minentle said she hoped winning the Miss Pre-teen category would motivate other young people who were scared to take a leap of faith.
“This win is a guiding light to those who are discouraged, motivating them to achieve their goals and leave a lasting positive influence.”
She said the experience had built her confidence.
“It’s a great pageant because it fosters personal growth, self-awareness and development ... it welcomes participants from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
“I felt seen, heard and empowered by my other peers sharing the same ambition as mine.”
Minentle said her mother, Nombasa, had fuelled her passion.
“I am grateful to my mom, she is my biggest supporter and she has been with me throughout this journey and I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for her, I appreciate her love.”
Minentle said one of her aims was to spread positivity and kindness.
“My plan is to bring change through public speaking and spreading kindness and compassion through supporting charitable initiatives and fundraising.”
