The EFF has accused an Umhlobo Wenene radio DJ of “hating himself” and endorsing public violence, necessitating that he be removed from the station.
Brakfesi Eyondlayo Ekuseni anchor Phiwe “DJ Pastor” Nozewu has been called out for apparently making a laughing stock of a female EFF supporter allegedly assaulted by parents at Brackenfell High School in Cape Town earlier this week.
EFF national spokesperson Delisile Ngwenya accused Nozewu of anti-blackness after he posted on Twitter “his apparent joy” over the alleged assault of Sibongile Nkasayi and other EFF members.
Nkasayi has laid a complaint of assault against a man allegedly captured on video hitting her with a baseball bat.
Ngwenya said Nozewu’s post was at odds with the position he occupied at the SABC and he had brought the public broadcaster into disrepute.
The Dispatch sent an inquiry to SABC spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo, who had not responded at the time of writing.
Nozewu has since retracted his comment on Twitter.
Writing on his account on Tuesday, he said. “I have decided to acknowledge my negligence and insensitivity to the matter from my side.
“Racism is a sensitive issue and my comments were misplaced.
“No malicious harm was intended and I hope this apology finds resonance [with] those affected and offended. It has been an eye-opener for me,” Nozewu said.
But Ngwenya said Nozewu had shown himself to be partisan individual with an agenda against opposition parties.
“He is well-known to be a fervent supporter of the ‘new dawn’ regime, frequently making villains out of those who stand opposed to the corrupt Cyril Ramaphosa government on his Umhlobo Wenene FM breakfast show,” said Ngwenya.
“It is for this reason that Nozewu openly celebrated the beating of EFF members because in his feeble mind, it constitutes a lesson being served to his political opponents, even [if] such a beating is done by racists against black people.
“We call for the national broadcaster to remove Nozewu for his harmful comments which disregard black life and violence against women.
“His continued stay at SABC only seeks to serve a divisive purpose and we will pursue all measures to ensure his bass-pleasing voice is never heard on air again.”
