Plans by some ANC councillors in Buffalo City Metro to table a vote of no confidence against mayor Princess Faku, fell flat and failed on Wednesday morning.
As the Wednesday morning virtual special council meeting commenced, an exigence matter, calling for a vote of no confidence debate on Faku, was raised by ANC councillor Pearl Hanse, and supported by some within the ANC caucus.
It was, however, after council speaker Humphrey Maxegwana had consulted with the metro's legal unit, that such plans to have such debate were shot down.
The legal unit advised that it would be legally wrong to add such an item on the day's special council meeting agenda, which was already predetermined and sent out to councillors last week.
Maxegwana later ruled against the tabling of such a report, albeit amid disagreements from some ANC councillors.
Such an item could still make the agenda for the city's next council meeting, Maxegwana told councillors.
This is a developing story.
