On-loan Mamelodi Sundowns winger Phakamani Mahlambi is looking to revive his football career under the leadership of coach Gavin Hunt at Chippa United this season.
The speedy attacker was among the 15 players unveiled to join the Gqeberha-based outfit ahead of the new DStv Premiership season.
Mahlambi played his finest football under coach Hunt at Bidvest Wits, and his performance at the now defunct club saw the player earn himself a move to African football giants Al Ahly of Egypt in 2017.
Since his return from Al Ahly, the 23-year-old’s football career has not been the same.
Last season, he struggled to get game time at AmaZulu and made only three appearances for the team during his stay at the club.
Now that he has been reunited with his favourite coach Hunt, Mahlambi hopes to resuscitate his football career during his stay at the Eastern Cape-based side.
Though he has not played as yet for the Chilli Boys in the two league opening matches, against Sekhukhune United and Sundowns, the player hopes he will be given a chance soon to prove his worth.
“The reason I have come here at Chippa is to actually recruit myself to come back and play football and do exactly the thing that I enjoy to do,” Mahlambi said.
“I have worked with the coach before and he understands me better than anyone and I think that is the main reason I joined the team.
“Hopefully, I will get a fair chance this time around, get some game time that I need and get back to the person that I was.
“We as a team have goals that we are going to set for ourselves, maybe some we have already set, but we just want to be a team that is competing for everything.
“Prior to joining Chippa I was home because I had issues, but everything was fixed and I am cool now,” he said.
