Chippa United have put their one-week international break to good use, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili says.
No PSL action took place this week due to Bafana Bafana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia at Orlando Stadium on Friday.
The Chilli Boys have used the break wisely at training in preparation for their next league fixture — against SuperSport United on Saturday April 1 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (5.30pm).
Chippa go into the game having secured an away point against Sekhukhune United after the match ended 1-1 in their last PSL fixture.
Kurt Lentjies’s side will now be looking to bag the full three points against Matsatsantsa in the hope of elevating themselves in the log.
Chippa have been struggling to register wins in the league since returning from the World Cup break.
Their poor run, which culminated in the axing of coach Morgan Mammila, resulted in the club dropping to 13th position on the log, with 25 points from 23 matches — four clear from the relegation playoffs spot.
Mammila has since been replaced by Lentjies, 38.
Nwabili said the away draw against Sekhukhune had lifted the motivation of the players.
“We played against Sekhukhune and we came back with a 1-1 draw — it was a boost for the club and for the players,” the 26-year-old Nigerian goalkeeper said.
“The point also helped us in the log too.
“Talking about our next game, we will be playing against a different team and I am sure my coach will come up with plans on how to approach the game.
“So one shouldn’t expect us to play the way we did against Sekhukhune, [the fans] will see a different Chippa side against SuperSport.
“I know coming out from a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune will help the team build the confidence of the players when we face SuperSport,” he added.
